Fengtu GNSS Monitoring Station: Building a "Smart Neural Network" for Dam Safety

Fengtu's GNSS monitoring station, leveraging GNSS technology, is building an efficient "smart neural network" for dam safety monitoring.

GNSS, or Global Navigation Satellite System, uses signals transmitted by multiple satellites to calculate the precise position of ground receiving equipment based on signal propagation time. The GNSS reference station adopts an advanced multi-frequency and multi-mode receiver, which can simultaneously receive signals from multiple satellite systems such as Beidou, GPS, and GLONASS, greatly improving the reliability and accuracy of positioning. The horizontal positioning accuracy can reach ±(2.5mm + 1ppm), and the vertical positioning accuracy can reach ±(5mm + 1ppm), enabling precise monitoring of subtle displacements and deformations.

To create a "smart neural network" for dam safety monitoring, it is necessary to reasonably arrange monitoring points at key parts of the dam. The GNSS reference station forms an all-round monitoring network by installing monitoring equipment at positions such as the dam crest, dam slope, and dam foundation. These monitoring devices collect displacement data of various parts of the dam in real-time. The reference station uses differential RTK technology to eliminate errors in the propagation of satellite signals, achieving millimeter-level displacement monitoring accuracy.

The GNSS reference station supports multiple communication methods, such as 4G, NB-IoT, and Beidou short message, enabling fast and stable transmission of monitoring data to the monitoring center. In the monitoring center, professional data processing software analyzes massive amounts of data. Once the data exceeds the preset safety threshold, the system immediately activates an automatic early warning mechanism, notifying managers via text messages, emails, mobile applications, etc., to gain valuable time for timely response measures.

Long-term accumulated monitoring data helps analyze the trends and laws of dam deformation. By comparing data from different periods, potential safety hazards of the dam can be identified, and maintenance and reinforcement plans can be formulated in advance to prevent accidents.

Compared with traditional dam monitoring methods, the GNSS technology represented by the GNSS reference station realizes all-weather and automatic monitoring, unaffected by factors such as weather and day-night conditions. Traditional monitoring relies on manual regular inspections and limited monitoring points, making it difficult to obtain comprehensive and continuous data. In contrast, GNSS technology provides massive and high-frequency data, offering richer and more accurate basis for dam safety assessment.
