Soil pH is a critical indicator for measuring the acidity or alkalinity of soil, ranging from 0 to 14. A lower value indicates stronger acidity, a higher value signifies stronger alkalinity, and 7 represents neutrality. It is influenced by factors such as parent material, climate, vegetation, and human activities. For example, soils in humid regions tend to be acidic, while those in arid areas are often alkaline. Long-term use of chemical fertilizers may acidify the soil, whereas applying lime can increase the pH value.

There are multiple methods to determine soil pH. For quick home or field testing, the pH test strip method can be used: collect soil from the top 5–20 cm layer, remove impurities, air-dry, grind, and sieve it. Prepare a soil-water suspension at a weight ratio of 1:2.5, stir and let it stand, then dip the test strip into the supernatant and compare it with a color chart to read the value. This method is simple and low-cost but has lower precision, with an error of approximately ±0.5.

In laboratories or professional testing, the pH meter method is commonly used. First, sieve the soil sample and calibrate the instrument's electrode with standard buffer solutions. Then insert the electrode into the soil-water suspension (potassium chloride solution can replace distilled water for acidic soils) and record the reading after it stabilizes. This method offers higher precision (error ±0.1) but requires professional equipment and electrode maintenance.

The FT-WSYP1 Soil pH Tester is a portable intelligent device designed specifically for soil environmental testing. It is mainly used to quickly measure soil pH and can simultaneously monitor soil temperature, providing data support for agricultural planting, horticultural maintenance, and scientific research.

This instrument uses a high-precision composite electrode with a detection range of pH 0–14, a resolution of 0.01, and an error of ±0.1, meeting the needs for precise field testing. It features user-friendly operation: after powering on, no complicated pretreatment is required—simply insert the electrode 5–10 cm into the soil, and it will display real-time pH and temperature data within 10 seconds. Equipped with an LCD screen, it is clearly readable in strong light and supports data storage and export for easy comparison and analysis of historical data. The body is made of waterproof and drop-resistant materials, suitable for outdoor complex environments, and has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery that can work continuously for over 8 hours when fully charged.

The FT-WSYP1 is suitable for various scenarios. In home gardening, it can guide the selection of acid-loving plants (e.g., blueberries, azaleas) or alkaline-loving plants (e.g., cacti, carnations). In farmland management, it can quickly survey soil acidity and alkalinity in plots to assist in adjusting fertilization plans (e.g., applying lime to acidic soil for improvement). In scientific research, it can generate test reports through supporting software to track trends in soil environmental changes. With its compact size (approximately 15 cm × 5 cm) and portability, it combines professionalism and ease of use, making it an efficient tool in the field of soil testing.
