Rapid testing methods refer to on-site operational methods that require no complex sample pretreatment and can yield results within minutes. Today we will examine rapid testing methods for soil moisture, temperature, salinity, and pH.

Let's start with soil moisture and temperature. Portable soil moisture rapid testers can be used, utilizing the characteristic that soil's dielectric constant is highly correlated with moisture content. The instrument probe emits electromagnetic waves and measures changes in propagation frequency or time to calculate soil volumetric water content. This method is fast, non-destructive, does not damage soil structure, allows multiple repeated measurements, and many models can simultaneously measure temperature.

Next is soil salinity, which is usually indirectly reflected by measuring the electrical conductivity of soil extracts using a soil EC meter.
