A Soil Moisture Monitor is professional equipment used to measure soil water content, serving modern agricultural production, water-saving irrigation, and drought mitigation. Soil moisture status is a core factor influencing crop growth, soil physical properties, and microbial activity. Rational monitoring of soil moisture helps accurately calculate crop water requirements, improve irrigation efficiency, and provide a scientific basis for agricultural water conservation and yield optimization.

 

From a technical principle perspective, most soil moisture instruments operate based on the dielectric constant principle: the device emits electromagnetic waves at a specific frequency transmitted along a probe. By detecting the relationship between changes in the soil's dielectric constant and the output voltage, it calculates the soil's volumetric water content. This method supports fast, non-destructive measurement and can simultaneously monitor multiple parameters such as soil temperature and salinity.

 

Fengtu® Soil Moisture Monitor

 

The Fengtu® Soil Moisture Monitor is a sensor system based on the dielectric constant principle, capable of dynamically observing soil water content at different soil layers. The device adopts an integrated tubular design, with an external PVC plastic pipe housing from which the sensor can be easily removed or repositioned. This enables continuous detection of water content at various soil depths and facilitates maintenance. High-frequency探测 waves (close to 1 GHz) can penetrate the pipe wall to effectively probe the soil environment. Since the sensor electrodes do not directly contact the soil, they are immune to interference from fertilizers, pesticides, or salt ions, ensuring data accuracy.

 

The Fengtu® Soil Moisture Monitor supports multi-parameter measurement of soil moisture, temperature, and salinity. The soil moisture measurement range is 0%–100%, with an accuracy of ±3%; the soil temperature measurement range covers -30°C to 70°C, with an accuracy of 0.1°C. The device can be powered by a combination of solar panels and storage batteries. It is equipped with a 485 interface or GPRS wireless transmission module, supporting remote data viewing and export via a cloud platform.

 

During installation, the instrument uses a layered observation point structure, with soil temperature and moisture measurement points configured every 10 centimeters underground. Users need to drill a hole at a selected location (e.g., flat terrain with uniform crop growth), inject special slurry, and then insert the sensor to ensure full coupling with the soil. This design is suitable for various fields including agricultural science and technology, environmental protection, and hydrology and water conservancy, helping users achieve real-time monitoring and precise management of soil moisture status.
